McKinley Sports 24/7: Heritage Bowl Game 2015

Written by Jamarcus Alexander Week one lived up to the great hype as expected when McKinley played Scotlandville in the first annual Heritage Bowl. In the past, the great rival used to be played in Week five but McKinley High coach Robert Signater moved it up to week one so all of his players could focus on the season. McKinley coaching staff knew it was going to be a challenge stopping Scotlandville’s dual threat, quarterback Levi Lewis and wide receiver Chris Johnson. In the first-ever Heritage Bowl McKinley High Panthers fell short to Scotlandville High Hornets. Tara, Madison Prep, McKinley, Scotlandville post EBR tourney wins

Three of the four quarterfinal matchups featured teams from the same district, but it was the evening’s finale matching a pair of Class 5A teams from different leagues that highlighted the event. Freshman Tyrese Radford’s three-point play with 18 seconds to play gave No. 4 McKinley the lead for good and Kyle Woods added a pair of free throws in a 48-44 victory over No. 5 Zachary before a jammed-packed Tara High gym. Top-seed and three-time defending tournament champion Scotlandville advanced past No. 8 Broadmoor 73-58 […]

That’s the exact moment when James makes it obvious he’s not your stereotypical lineman. “I don’t have many hobbies, but I do like to read,” James said. “Mostly it’s sports books, like one I read about how to prevent injuries.” In an era when most defensive lineman idolize guys like the Houston Texans’ J.J. Watt or the New Orleans Saints’ […]

McKinley stuns Scotlandville

McKinley freshman Tyrese Radford is starting to develop a flair for the dramatic. A night after completing a three-point play in the final minute of play to lift the Panthers to a victory, Radford excelled once again in a pressure-packed moment. Radford made two free throws with 6.5 seconds remaining and catapulted No. 4-seed McKinley to a 52-51 victory Sunday over No. 1-seed and three-time defending champion Scotlandville, sending the Panthers into the championship game of the EBR/Bob Pettit/Coca-Cola Parish Tournament at Southern’s F.G. Clark Activity Center. McKinley (10-5) meets No. 2 Madison Prep Academy (16-1), a 72-38 runaway winner […]
