MCKINLEY HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT EARNS NATIONAL MERIT SCHOLAR HONOR

Anne Baron Sheffield, a senior at McKinley High School, earned National Merit Scholar recognition for the 2014-15 school year. Students eligible for the award undergo a series of reviews that reduce the number of candidates from a total of 1.4 million students from across the nation to approximately 15,000 from which the winners are selected. A committee of high school counselors and college admissions officers select the scholars, based on their individual academic records, standardized test scores, school and community activities, and essays written by the students. Those who make the cut receive $2,500 scholarships. Anna is also a member of McKinley’s 30+ Club which celebrates students who have earned an ACT composite score of 30 or above. Anna served as Mu Alpha Theta president, McKinley’s Math Club which earned first place awards in several categories at its 2015 MAO Convention.
